- Staying in central Amsterdam — Noord is half the price and the ferry is free.
- Giving Brussels two nights; the city is done in half a day and the rest is better spent in Ghent or Bruges.
- Buying a city card by default. On a short stay it usually loses money — do the arithmetic first.
- Spending the weekend in Amsterdam, where accommodation is markedly pricier than midweek.
Worth knowing
- Thalys and Eurostar are priced like flights — the earlier the cheaper.
- All three cities sell a city card, but on a short stay it often does not pay off. Work it out.
- Amsterdam accommodation is clearly cheaper Monday to Thursday; shifting the weekend to Brussels lowers the total.
